The Thoroughbred Figure Skating Club welcomes you to our presentation of The Nutcracker on Ice 2017. We are pleased to offer this holiday classic, performed on ice by Thoroughbred Figure Skating Club members. The origin of the Nutcracker Story is a fairy tale ballet in two acts centered on a family’s Christmas Eve celebration. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky set E.T.A. Hoffman’s adaptation of the Nutcracker story to music in the late 1800’s. The ballet premiered a week before Christmas in 1892. Approximately 50 years later the Nutcracker Ballet premiered in the United States. Many adaptations and interpretations of the Nutcracker Ballet have emerged over the years.
Our figure skating club has enjoyed working on this production, which includes roles for many different skating levels. The classic Nutcracker music has inspired creativity in adapting the ballet for a skating performance. The performing skaters represent a wide variety of skill levels and ages. Many characters will grace the ice to tell this enchanted Christmas fairy tale. Parents, coaches, skaters and community friends have volunteered voluminous hours in preparation for this performance. I would like to thank everyone who has so generously offered his or her time, skills, and efforts to make this show possible. Enjoy this magical holiday show performed by the Thoroughbred Figures Skating Club. Please visit TFSCskating.org if you or someone you know is interested in finding out more about figure skating.
